GEORGE NEWS - fire started at the Landfill site again during the night. The fire department was on site as well as Landfill staff with a bulldozer to cover the burning areas with soil last night as well as this morning and they succeeded to extinguish the fire.
There are however parts still smouldering.
A water tanker has been dispatched to the area and is currently busy. Preparations to have an excavator on site is underway to do meaningful work for a longer-lasting result.
We will keep you abreast of operations as we progress. The area has been cordoned off and is mostly accessible to clients.
