GEORGE NEWS - One person died and three sustained serious injuries after a VW Jetta and a Ford Ranger bakkie collided head-on on the R404 (the road between Blanco and the airport) between 19:00 and 20:00 last night, Sunday 11 June.

According to unconfirmed information, the bakkie was travelling towards Blanco from the direction of the airport when it collided with the Jetta in the oncoming lane. 

The front passenger in the Jetta died in the accident. The driver sustained very serious injuries and the two passengers in the back of the vehicle were also hospitalised with serious injuries.

The driver of the bakkie complained of a back injury.

The cause of the accident still has to be confirmed.

It is currently unclear the conditions of injuries sustained by the other patients.  George Herald is awaiting feedback from a media enquiry that was sent to the police earlier today.
