GEORGE NEWS - The U3A is hosting Ed Chantler on Tuesday 14 May when he will deliver a talk on his walk along one of the Camino trails in Spain.
Accompanied by his two daughters, they chose the road less travelled from Bilbao, down to Lugo and finally, to Santiago. Chantler has been a teacher for many years and, after leaving the Cape Town College of Education he joined a friend to start an educational trust for needy children in a variety of high schools. He continues to lecture Maths and Environment on a part-time basis at a number of universities and has written a number of books on these subjects. The lecture starts at 10:30.
On Friday 17 May, Luigi Marucci will talk about 'The making of stringed instruments'. Marucci has a workshop in George where he makes a variety of stringed instruments while offering people a chance to learn all about the industry. He started his career as a teacher but after five years he opted out to continue with his love of woodwork and the making of hand crafted furniture. However he really wanted to make musical instruments, so he found a teacher who taught him to craft violins and guitars.
This lecture starts with tea at 10:00 followed by the talk at 10:30.
Both these talks promise to be fascinating and will be held at Emmaüs in Memorium Street. Entrance is R5 for members and R10 for visitors.
