GEORGE NEWS - The sudden passing of George resident and esteemed businessman, Etienne Joubert, on the morning of May 15, has sent shockwaves through his family, friends, and the local community.
Etienne, a legendary figure at 71 years old, was the founder of the successful tile retailer, Stiles. His profound impact on the tile industry and his unwavering dedication to his family leave behind a powerful legacy.
Etienne's journey in the tile industry spanned most of his life, and approximately 35 years ago, his company transferred him to George. He later went on to buy Penny Pincher Tiles, leading to the establishment of Stiles.
Together with his oldest son, Steve, he was able to grow the company and establish ten showrooms across the country, as well as a wholesale division. Stiles absorbed many other businesses, cementing its position as a leader in the industry in South Africa.
Remembering his cherished moments with Etienne, his younger brother, Deon, reminisced about their shared upbringing in Harrismith.
Deon fondly spoke of Etienne's passion for golf and motorcycles, noting that his brother was not only an accomplished businessman but also a loving family man who adored his children and grandchildren.
Steve has only one word to sum up his father: legend.
George Herald extends heartfelt condolences to Etienne's family. We also celebrate his remarkable achievements and legacy. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community as a whole.
Etienne is survived by his wife Ingrid, his three children Steve, Henk and Nina, and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held tomorrow, Friday 19 May, at 10:00 at the George Methodist Church in Plantation Road.
