GEORGE NEWS - Deputy Mayor Raybin Figland is suspended from all DA party activities, pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing over alleged misconduct. He has also been removed from the process for becoming a parliamentary candidate.
Chairperson of the DA's Federal Council Helen Zille confirmed that Figland was being accused of unbecoming and improper conduct. She did not wish to respond to rumours about why this is only surfacing now, nearly two years after the alleged conduct took place.
George Herald has it on good authority that the complaint is related to Figland's alleged relationship with a 19-year-old matriculant in 2021. Allegations include the sending of improper photos to Figland by the 19-year-old. Figland, who is married, was separated from his wife at the time the alleged sexting took place.
Asked about the suspension and the allegations, Figland said he will not be commenting on any of it, and that he is currently seeking legal advice.
Figland made quite a few enemies when he openly sided with Bonginkosi Madikizela in the running for the position of provincial leader against Tertuis Simmers.
