GEORGE NEWS - Two sentenced for drugs in George
Two Nigerian men, Anthony Chike Onwuekwe and Uguchukwu Michael Onyenjuala, were sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment or five years and a fine of R10 000 each.
They were convicted for dealing in drugs after they were arrested in Marberius flats, George, on 19 April 2018. A total of 169g of tik and 82g of khat were found in their possession.
Both accused were declared unfit to possess a firearm and the drugs were forfeited to the state for disposal. The successful investigation was conducted by detectives of the Provincial Organised Crime's narcotics section based in George.
Alleged kidnapper in court
The man who was arrested for picking up a three-year-old girl and walking off with her in New Harvest in Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre on Sunday 15 May, is scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate's Court later today, Thursday 4 August.
The accused, Mvuyisi Zweni (33), was employed as a security guard at the store at the time. He was arrested a few days after the incident and made his first court appearance on a charge of kidnapping on Wednesday 25 May where he was released on bail of R500.
CCTV video footage shows the accused picking up the little girl and making off with her.
The toddler's six-year-old brother alerts their mother who had her back turned for a few seconds as she was perusing the content of the dairy shelf.
On the footage it is clear that the mother immediately races in the direction in which the man and her daughter disappeared. About 15 seconds later she returns with her crying daughter in her arms.
