GEORGE NEWS - George Correctional Services mourns the death of their centre head, Jan Tieties (58). Tieties passed away on 1 January at Mediclinic George after having tested positive for Covid-19.
He had been employed by the Department of Correctional Services for 38 years and has spent the last decade at the George correctional facility.
Regional Commissioner Delekile Klaas mourned Tieties' passing.
"Tieties was much-loved. He was a hard worker, committed and had excellent human relations. He was also a religious leader at the George Correctional Centre. He would be the first to comfort others for the loss of their loved ones. He was a father figure for many - always on the ground, giving support."
Tieties also played a critical role in community projects run by the department and was central to most of their housing projects.
"Tieties was much-loved inside and outside of the department," said Klaas.
Tieties is survived by his his children, grandchildren and extended family.
