GEORGE NEWS - Four suspects, one of whom is an advocate, who were arrested for possession of 164kg of suspected stolen copper on 26 July, appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on Monday 6 September.
George advocate Zukile Mqulo and the three other suspects, Mandla Twala, Litha Alam and Monwabisi Godongwana, were travelling from Plettenberg Bay to George in a Toyota Quantum minibus when they were stopped at a roadblock of the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team at 19:30.
"Two containers with copper and a bolt cutter were found in the vehicle. The items were seized and the driver of the vehicle, as well as three passengers, were arrested on the scene," said Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie.
After their first court appearance in July this year, the four suspects, all between the ages of 31 and 47, were released on bail of R500 each.
The case was postponed until 4 October for further investigation.
Mqulo will be conducting his own defence and Twala, Alam and Godongwana opted to apply for legal aid.
