GEORGE NEWS - "Reading should not be presented to children as a chore duty. It should be offered to them as a precious gift."
This ideal expressed by Kate DiCamillo is exactly what Conville Primary School strove to do on 1 February when the world was celebrating World Read Aloud Day.
The teachers presented reading as a precious gift by dressing up as characters such as Minnie Mouse, Ladybugs and even as school children.
During the first 30 minutes, all learners listened to a story that was read aloud.
The school also started a book club to ignite the learners' love for reading. Conville Primary shared that they believe that as a country we still have a long way to go in literacy.
Reading is the best way to bridge the gap as it contributes to vocabulary expansion, enhances analytical thinking and overall brain activity.
Besides, who does not love and enjoy reading a good story?
The teachers dressed up as characters from books, and even as pupils. From left are Beatrice Alexander, Diane Damons, Chantel Madumbo, Carly Muller, Margo Pillay and Janisha Pedro.
