GEORGE NEWS - The offering in the eastern commercial node of George is expanding with a 14 000m² shopping centre currently under construction behind CTM, and Motus increasing their presence behind the existing Motus Ford dealership.
Motus is moving the BMW, Kia, Hyundai and Mitsubishi dealerships here from town.
The land on which these two developments are underway was sold off by Laritza Investments, developers of Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre. Loot Steyn, a Laritza director, said they also sold land near Eden Meander to Jonsson Workwear that wants to establish an outlet.
According to Motus property manager Eugene Cox, they are investing about R85m to develop floor space of approximately 4 600m² on the 12 500m² land.
The 14 000m² shopping centre, Outeniqua Retail Village, will have a Super Spar of about 6 000m² as anchor tenant. According to Ancora Retail Property Specialists CEO Marianka Victor, it is set to open in the last quarter of 2024. The Spar will include a 600m² TOPS Spar. Some of the other tenants are Clicks, Blueberry Beacon, Bossa, Crazy Plastics, Crazy Pets, Specsavers, a new restaurant/coffee shop, Cowfish and Polpetta.
"As part of the design the centre will offer a portion of basement parking, which is a first to George and will be a welcome addition during the regular rainy periods," said Victor.
"It will also have a travelator, stairs and lifts that will manage the circulation of shoppers from the basement parking.
"The upmarket, lifestyle feel with a targeted tenant mix will service the demand of the growing market by combining everyday convenience and variety with unique and niche offerings."
Eden Residential Estate, a new security estate being developed by Laritza, is also arising behind the South African Revenue Services building (adjacent to Blue Mountain Estate).
According to the inhouse estate agent, Ina Steyn, they are developing 102 single residential units of 120m² to 183m² and apartment blocks offering a total of 57 apartments of 71m² to 82m².
"Two of the apartment blocks have been completed and all the units in the first block and half of the second block have been sold," Victor said. "The first residents will be moving in by May. We have a single residential show unit completed. Most of the enquiries are from Gauteng and Bloemfontein, but I also get calls from KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. Most of them are families moving here."
Jonsson Workwear confirmed their development, but said they are still in the very early stages of planning.
At Eden Residential Estate, the first phase of the development of 106 single residential units and 57 apartments has started.
