GEORGE NEWS - The motive for the cold-blooded murder of the lawyer from Lawaaikamp who was shot in Thembalethu, Sindisisile Dingi (47), is still unknown.
Dingi was shot on Saturday 15 October at about 20:30 while sitting in his car in Makhaza Street in what appears to be a brutal assassination.
When police arrived on the scene they found Dingi's body inside his car with six gunshot wounds to his chest and head.
Dingi was known for representing some high-profile clients.
According to a reliable source close to George Herald, Dingi's girlfriend was with him in his car when he was shot. She was unharmed. They were allegedly in the area to pick up keys.
"We heard the gunshots," added the source. "When I went out to have a look I saw three men running away. Dingi was in his car and the lights were still on."
No arrests have been made since the shooting and police are still on a manhunt for the suspects.
Dingi's office was situated in 100 York Mall - the building that sustained severe damage after a fire that started on the ground floor in the early morning hours of Friday 14 October.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, Dingi was accosted by a group men of whom at least one was carrying a firearm. "Two occupants were in a vehicle when two males, of whom one was carrying a firearm, accosted them and shot the deceased. The assailants fled the scene on foot. Upon arrival police found the victim with several gunshot wounds to the head and body. He was declared dead by paramedics on scene," said Spies.
Dingi was a former detective with the George police station before he pursued a career in law in 2013.
