GEORGE NEWS - The man accused of the brutal murder of the young Imange Jantjies (8) from Thembalethu, will be tried in the George Circuit High Court. Zipho Nqoko (23) will make his first appearance in this court on Wednesday 8 June for his pre-trial.
Nqoko, who was also the child's mother's boyfriend, was arrested on 19 August 2021. The murder was allegedly preceded by a domestic altercation between the couple.
It is believed that the suspect then took the child to a shack where he stabbed him multiple times.
The couple turned up at the Thembalethu police station at about 18:30 on the evening of the murder with disturbing allegations that the suspect had killed his girlfriend's son.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, police were immediately dispatched to Nqoko's home, where the incident allegedly occurred.
"Upon entry of the residence situated in the informal settlement in Zone 7, members made the gruesome discovery of the boy who had already succumbed to multiple injuries to the body," he said.
Nqoko abandoned his bail application and has been in custody since his arrest.
