GEORGE NEWS - The suspect who was arrested on Thursday 19 August for the brutal murder of Imange Jantjies (8) from Thembalethu, appeared in the George Magistrate’s Court this morning, 9 September.
Although today’s court appearance was scheduled for his formal bail application, Zipho Nqoko (23) has decided to abandon his application and will not be applying for bail.
The case was postponed until 19 October for further investigation. Nqoko’s first court appearance was on Monday 23 August.
The young victim was allegedly stabbed to death by the suspect, who is also the child’s mother’s boyfriend. The senseless murder was allegedly preceded by a domestic altercation between the couple. It is believed that the suspect then took the child to a shack where he stabbed him multiple times.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the couple turned up at the Thembalethu police station at about 18:30 on the evening of the murder with disturbing allegations that the suspect had killed his girlfriend's son.
"Police members were immediately dispatched to the residence of the suspect, where the incident allegedly occurred. Upon entry of the residence situated in the informal settlement in Zone 7, members made the gruesome discovery of the boy who had already succumbed to multiple injuries to the body," he said.
