GEORGE NEWS - The suspect arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Imange Jantjies (8) from Thembalethu, will make his next court appearance on Thursday 9 September for his formal bail application.
His first court appearance was on Monday 23 August, when the case was postponed until 30 August.
The young victim was allegedly stabbed to death by his mother's boyfriend, Zipho Nqoko (23), on Thursday 19 August. The senseless murder was allegedly preceded by a domestic altercation between the couple.
The suspect then took the child to a shack where he stabbed him multiple times.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the couple turned up at the Thembalethu police station at about 18:30 on the evening of the murder with disturbing allegations that the suspect had killed his girlfriend's son.
"Police members were immediately dispatched to the residence of the suspect, where the incident allegedly occurred. Upon entry of the residence situated in the informal settlement in Zone 7, members made the gruesome discovery of the boy who had already succumbed to multiple injuries to the body," he said.
According to a trusted source close to George Herald, the boy's body was found locked up in the suspect's shack in Zone 7 with at least eight stab wounds to his neck and more to his body.
A knife that was found at the scene was handed in as evidence.
The suspect was arrested on a charge of murder.
