GEORGE NEWS - In the true spirit of Christmas, Ruan Lamprecht, a Grade 6 learner at Glenwood House School, took on a challenge at school for the benefit of Zeake Swart, the 12-year-old George girl who has been putting up a brave fight against leukaemia for over a year.
Ruan has enrolled for the Ductus Exellentiam Leadership Challenge at his school, which included both a physical and a fundraising challenge.
For the physical challenge, he did a 50km cycling route, and used it to raise funds for Zeake.
According to Zeake's mom, Susan, she will probably be going for a bone marrow transplant this year. Zeake was also diagnosed with JXG (juvenile xanthogranuloma, a rare and life-threatening disease) last year.
On 9 December, Ruan accomplished his goal by completing 50km on his bicycle and raised a whopping R24 500. Zeake is very grateful for the generous donation. "A huge thank you, Ruan. I truly appreciate your amazing effort!"
Susan says that although Zeake's body and immune system are fragile, her spirit is that of a soldier. "To everyone out there who has been praying for her, please do not stop. We need your prayers every day."
