GEORGE NEWS - Hungry and neglected dogs in Borcherds benefitted from Mandela Day in a huge way thanks to a donation drive by Garden Route Lifestyle Property and three private schools, Country House School, Study House and Future Focus.
The property company took the initiative to appeal to the schools to donate dog food and blankets to the "dog lady" of Borcherds, Marileen Greeff of Borcherds Paws, who voluntarily feeds and treats dogs in this neighbourhood.
On Tuesday, Garden Route Lifestyle Property visited each school to collect the donations. "We were pleasantly surprised at the response of the schools and wish to thank each and every learner for their donation and cooperation," said Mitchell.
Each learner at every school was treated to sweets and chips, sponsored by ESI Attorneys.
Greeff feeds about 400 dogs three times a week. She has been doing this faithfully for about two years now, doing her rounds in the neighbourhood on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. She also deworms and treats sick and injured animals. In severe cases, she takes the dogs to the vet. Greeff also owns her own dogs and has dogs in foster care.

The little ones were allowed to touch the tiny puppy that Greeff brought along.
On Tuesday, Greeff brought along a tiny puppy that attracted a lot of attention from the children. It had been treated for burns caused by boiling water.
She thanked the learners for their generous donations. "This is going to make a huge difference and will feed a lot of hungry dogs."
