GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Harold Basson, Director: Technical Services of the municipality, has been elevated to a Fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE).
The Hessequa Municipality announced his new status on Tuesday 5 May.
"This excellent achievement was officially communicated by The South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE)," said Marina Griesel, Director: Corporate Management.
"Election as a Fellow, the senior grade of membership of the Institution, is accorded to those who are acknowledged by their peers to have reached a position of eminence within the profession. Proposals are considered annually by the Electoral College of Fellows, and the Executive Committee has confirmed the election of Basson."
According to Griesel, Basson has 33 years' experience of the functional management of a technical directorate of a municipality, good management skills and knowledge of all applicable legislation. He also has excellent overall experience in all technical fields related to municipal services infrastructure.
Apart from being a newly appointed Fellow of SAICE, he is also a Corporate member of The Institute of Municipal Engineering in South Africa.
He was previously employed by the George Municipality for 31 years. During the last 11 years at George, he was Director: Civil Engineering Services.
