GEORGE NEWS - No arrests have been made after an alleged attempted hijacking in Hoekwil Road, Wilderness last week.
Shortly after the incident on Tuesday night, 7 June, the George community police forum (CPF) issued a warning to bring it under motorists' attention.
According to information received from George police communications officer, Capt Alicéa Louw, and the CPF chairman, Rupert Pretorius, the victim was driving down Hoekwil Road at about 23:00 when he saw a man lying in the road.
When he got out of his vehicle to check on the person, two other suspects overpowered him, threatened him with a firearm and forced him back into his vehicle and told him to drive to Touwsranten.
The victim however kept his wits about him and allegedly purposefully drove his car into a ditch on the side of the road, grabbed the keys from the ignition and managed to escape into the nearby bushes.
The suspects also made off on foot, but not before they nabbed some tools from the vehicle's boot.
The suspects are still at large and fortunately the victim escaped unharmed.
Should readers notice any such suspicious activity, they are asked to report it to the police immediately and not stop or approach the person.
