GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - The second George July in aid of Seven Passes Initiative took place in great style with guests dressed to the nines at this annual fund raiser on Saturday 24 June.
The event at the Acropolis Venue on the R404 just outside Blanco, was based on the Durban July horse race... but with a small difference.
In George the "jockeys" competed against each other using handmade stick horses and not racehorses, but true to July tradition, spectators dressed up and the best dressed received prizes. The horses were made and donated by Life Community Services.
The event is a fundraising project in aid of Seven Passes Initiative in Touwsranten, Hoekwil. The institution has existed since 2008 and makes a big difference in the lives of many people in their area and elsewhere.
"This was a great event that belongs on everyone's annual calendar," said Wilmi Dippenaar, director of Seven Passes Initiative. "It's a fun event and community project that can be used by businesses and enterprises to market themselves and network with each other and clients."

A great hit on the day was the variety of wine farms, gin distilleries and breweries that each showcased top-class products for guests to taste. This was paired with a stunning selection of canapés.
According to event organiser Amy Finger of AEC Events, a total of 20 businesses from George participated in the day, of which 13 took part in the races.
