GEORGE NEWSFLASH - George Municipality and local schools celebrated Arbour Week with the planting of 25 trees, sponsored by Aurecon, at the York Street Cemetery on 7 September.
Environmental Services Portfolio Councillor Marlene Barnardt thanked Heidedal, Hibernia, Parkdene and Holy Cross Primary Schools for participating in the event and for planting trees at their schools and communities.
“Trees leave a positive legacy. These school children’s descendants can potentially benefit from the trees they plant here and in their communities.”
Cllr Barnardt appealed to communities to take ownership of trees planted in their neighbourhoods.
