GEORGE NEWS - Two suspects, aged 18 and 39, were arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property after they were pulled over on the N2 near the turn-off to Pacaltsdorp sometime last week.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, members of the rural flying squad were busy at a vehicle check point when they pulled over an Opel Kadett.
“They immediately noticed that the driver was behaving suspiciously and proceeded with a search of the vehicle. They found six cellphones concealed under the passenger’s seat and other electronic equipment in the vehicle. .
"The driver and his passenger were unable to account for their possession of the items and both were arrested,” said Spies.
The suspects have already made their first appearance in the George Magistrate’s Court, but details about their appearance could not be confirmed.
Garden Route District Commissioner Maj-Gen Norman Modishana lauded the members for their vigilance in recovering the suspected stolen goods.
Other electronic equipment was also found stashed away in the car.
