GEORGE NEWS - A suspect who was arrested after a business robbery in Thembalethu on Thursday 13 July, briefly appeared in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court on Monday where the case was postponed to 8 August for a formal bail application.
Fezile Ngongoshe (39), was arrested after he and four other men, of who at least two were carrying firearms, allegedly robbed a shop in Fourways in Nelson Mandela Boulevard of an undisclosed amount of money.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, the men entered the premises at about 18:00 that evening and threatened the shopkeeper.
A scuffle ensued after the men demanded cash and the shopkeeper was forced to the floor and assaulted by the suspects.
"Police responded to the scene and a shoot-out ensued. One of the men was cornered and arrested on the scene. An amount of cash was recovered while police also confiscated an imitation firearm," said Spies.
The other suspects fled the scene with the rest of the money. No further arrests have been made.
