Update
GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality’s spokesperson, Chantèl Edwards, has confirmed that the damage to the road near the Pacaltsdorp Reservoir was caused by a weak spot in the roadway.
“Water from the burst pipe at the water tower accumulated and drained into the catchpit, likely infiltrating the underlying layers and washing out the gravel, resulting in a cavity,” she said.
Municipal crews are scheduled to fill it up today. “The site will be properly compacted and resurfaced to ensure the road is safe and fully restored for public use,” Edwards said.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly to help maintain system stability.
