SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Two men are behind bars after police confiscated Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R50 000 during a high-speed chase on the N12 near De Rust on Friday evening, 15 August.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, De Rust police members spotted a grey Ford Fiesta at about 22:00 and attempted to approach the vehicle.
The driver sped off, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, officers noticed a parcel being thrown from the moving car.
The vehicle was eventually brought to a halt, and the two occupants, aged 24 and 36, were arrested. When officers returned to the spot where the parcel had been discarded, they discovered mandrax tablets.
The drugs were confiscated as evidence, and both suspects were detained on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The pair remain in custody and are expected to appear in court later today, Monday 18 August. Western Cape Provincial Detectives (Narcotics Section) have taken over the investigation.
