GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - September is Tourism Month and an excellent reason to discover and explore your own town… as a tourist!
For the month of September, George, Wilderness and Uniondale Tourism will be highlighting things for you, as a local tourist, to do. Well-known highlights of our area, such as the George Strawberry Festival presented by Ola, will be featured, as well as hidden gems or new attractions.
It's time to consider a trip to the museum if you've never walked its halls of history, or to enjoy a couple's spa day at the best hotel (Fancourt) and boutique hotel (The Views) spas in South Africa, or to tap into your creativity at the Wilderness Art Meander. This week the spotlight is on local events, spa experiences, arts and culture.
See a list of things to do under these topics on the George, Wilderness and Uniondale advertisement below. Evolving from the global celebration of World Tourism Day held annually on 27 September, Tourism Month aims to encourage South Africans to get a first-hand experience of the affordable, exciting and world class attractions that are available right on our own doorsteps.
The objective is to generate awareness of the enormous contribution the tourism industry makes to economic growth and the benefits to local citizens.
It aims to do this through promoting cultural awareness, preserving local culture and traditions, protecting natural attractions, generating foreign exchange, new employment opportunities, stimulation of trade and entrepreneurship as well as the provision of new infrastructure and regional development, particularly in isolated areas.
We encourage you to exchange your slippers for shoes this Tourism Month and explore, experience and escape right here, amidst the wealth of our wonderful towns.
