BUSINESS NEWS - The George Municipality is calling for nominations to establish a Tourism Advisory Committee to provide strategic guidance and consultation on the marketing of George as a vital component of Garden Route.
The committee will also advise Council and Staff of implementation initiatives through a work plan based on the recommendations and framework outlined in the Tourism Destination Management Plan to embrace the growth of the economy and invigorating the overall visitor/resident experience in George while including both long-term and short-term goals.
The committee will assist in creating an enhanced awareness and appreciation for the local and regional benefits of Tourism within the wider community and ensure that appropriate mechanisms for measuring and communicating the value of tourism are developed.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: TOURISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE GREATER GEORGE AREA
CLOSING DATE: 3 October 2022
George Municipality hereby invites nominations for members of the public to be appointed to the Tourism Advisory Committee for its first term of office. The members shall comprise of the following categories:
• Members representative of local communities.
• Members having proven expertise, as far as possible, in the following areas of
specialisation:
??Tourism
??Heritage, Arts and Culture
??Business Management
??Economic Development
??Sport and Recreation
??Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibition Management
The advisory committee will consist of 10 people, of which at least two (2) of these should be from Wilderness, two (2) from Uniondale, one (1) from Thembalethu and one (1) from Pacaltsdorp. The period of office of members will be 3 (three) years calculated from the date of appointment of such members.
Each nomination must be in writing and must contain the following information:
a. The name, address and identity number of the nominator, who must be a natural
person. A person may nominate himself or herself.
b. Motivation by the nominator for the appointment of the nominee to the George Tourism
Advisory Committee,not exceeding one page.
c.. A short curriculum vitae of the nominee,not exceeding two pages.
d. Certified copies of qualifications .
Please note that failure to comply with the above requirements will result in the
disqualification of the nomination. Membership will only be confirmed upon written
confirmation of the appointment.
The external members serving on the George Tourism Advisory Committee:
f. will not be remunerated but will be provided with record of service.;
g. will be required to abide by the terms and conditions, as well as operational procedures
and Terms of Reference applicable to Tourism Advisory Committee; and
h. must have access to email facilities with a valid email address and be in possession of
the tools to conduct meetings through Virtual Conferencing (MS Teams).
