BUSINESS NEWS & VIDEO - The use of drones have revolutionized the way things are done in the world. Mossel Bay now boasts the services of Terracopta - an advanced mapping and aerial surveying company that offers detailed geo-spatial information to a variety of industries.
Terracopta, formerly only based in Roodepoort, Gauteng, has now opened an office in Dana Bay, with Alan Brown as its frontman.
Alan’s lifelong interest in aviation, has found its expression in Terracopta’s range of expert services. Prior to qualifying as a competent and licenced drone pilot, he worked in the Middle East for 10 years in the oil and gas industry. He prides himself in upholding the highest standards as a SACAA Certified Commercial Drone Pilot, operating under a Remote Operator Certificate (ROC).
This, according to Alan, is a scarce commodity in the Garden Route and surrounds in general and further to this, the ROC authorizes controlled airspace operations greatly expanding the drone operations footprint.

Terracopta’s tailor-made services include accurate geo referenced dense point clouds, ortho-photo, drafting and line mapping for the utilities, engineering, civil and construction industries.
“We give clients detailed access and reliable information to assist them in the design, planning, implementation and quality control of their projects,” says Alan.
Alan continues that all Terracopta’s methods of data collection and processing were diligently tested and compared with traditional and trusted survey methods.
“This ensures that our deliverables are accurate and reliable. The results speak for themselves through several successfully completed projects and returning clients,” comments Alan.

Services
Infrastructure:
Terracopta offers a range of geo-spatial data to the infrastructure project management industry. Industry specific deliverables aids in the conceptualization; planning, design and management; construction documentation; maintenance and rehabilitation of infrastructure.
Civil:
Terracopta offers 3D construction site monitoring on a weekly basis. Survey-grade ortho-mosaics, DSMs, DTM’s, and dense 3D point clouds are delivered in record time. This process is repeated at fixed intervals and results are analysed for the duration of the project in order to monitor contractors and the construction progress. Terracopta is capable of measuring points, lines, surfaces and volumes, as well as annotate vector objects so you can use it with your existing CAD or GIS software package.
“Our deliverables will assist you in documenting and planning your construction sites from green fields set out to completion,” adds Alan.
Mining:
TerracTopta’s UAV survey technology makes the management of extraction activities and environmental protection issues easy-to-handle. It is available on demand and cost-effective, without exposing workers to dangerous conditions.
“UAVs are used to produce ortho-mosaics, DSMs and point clouds of open-pit mines, quarries and pits and volumetric calculations of stockpiles and extracted materials, increasing efficiency and accuracy, while keeping cost and labour to a minimum.”
Engineering:
Terracopta offers a range of geo-spatial data to engineering firms across South Africa and Southern Africa.
“Our industry specific deliverables will aid in the design of projects including electrical distribution, electrical generation, pipelines, civil engineering, structural engineering and rail engineering,” explains Alan.
Why Terracopta
“Unlike most other arial surveying companies, Terracopta is built on a solid surveying foundation using tried and tested survey methods and equipment to ensure that our deliverables are accurate and reliable,” says Brown
The success of Terracopta’s sister company, CDJ Land Surveyors who has completed multiple large and small scale cadastral, engineering, construction, topographic survey projects, puts them ahead in the game.
Terracopta has a focused approach in their work with three specific market sectors including construction, engineering as well as electrical distribution and generation.
“We are able to supply tailor-made services to these specific industries and their requirements.”
Contact
Alan is dedicated to detail and takes great pride in being an SACAA certified drone pilot AND operating under an ROC.
“I invite anyone to contact me regarding projects or any advice regarding the legal use of drones, airspace identification and associated SACAA requirements,” concludes Alan.
