GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - The phrase attributed to an Epictetus Roman slave and Stoic philosopher - "Only the edu-cated are free" - accompanies all e-mails of George campus’s teacher of the year 2010, Pieter Wicht.
This emphasises this NMMU lecturer’s commitment to his profession and students.

The university congratulated Wicht for successfully meeting the rigorous standards of the teacher of the year award and for setting such an enviable standard in teaching and learning at the George campus.
The teacher of the year award is made annually to a faculty lecturer who demonstrates a high degree of subject or discipline expertise, shows academic leadership and also shows teaching and learning facilitation expertise that motivates and inspire students to learn.
The lecturer’s reputation among students and peers is also part of the evaluation process.

Dr Steenkamp acknowledged
Dr Jaap Steenkamp has been named as the George campus Emerging Researcher of the Year for 2010. He is programme co-ordinator for forestry at the School of Natu-ral Resource Management. This accolade is based on his research outputs during 2009.
