GEORGE NEWS - After celebrating 60 years in business, Raffaele D'Amato Jewellers decided to consolidate their business interests in the Garden Route Mall and to close their shop in the George CBD.
The celebrated jeweller Michél Nunes and his mother and administrator Marlene are the driving force behind this long-standing family business.
Mother and son jointly decided to concentrate all their energies on the Garden Route Mall shop as Michél currently divides his time between British Columbia in Canada and living and working in George.
He will continue to do what he loves best, which is to design and create unique, show-stopping jewellery.
The D'Amato team of craftsmen and women have been carefully trained by Michél to keep alive the time-honoured tradition of service excellence.
"The operational change was made after a lot of soul-searching, but once the decision was made, we realised that there are many benefits to this move, including easy parking and safe shopping in a relaxed and spacious environment," says Michél.
In the two years that Michél has been commuting between George and Canada, he has discovered the joys of ice skating and cross country skiing.
After going through the mill with harrowing health setbacks, he is regaining his zest for life and has found particular pleasure in extensive travels, savouring the many little things that people take for granted.
Michél, who holds a BA Fine Arts degree in Jewellery and Industrial Metal Design and an FGA in Gemmology, recently further enhanced his qualifications by obtaining the CJAGJ in Canada.
While he treasures his time with his mother and coming up with innovative jewellery designs while in George, Michél also values his time in Canada and the many opportunities that this country and its friendly people offer.
