GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - Load shedding and Covid-19 are the two things that have had the biggest impact on businesses in George and the Garden Route.
This came to light in the preliminary results of a survey done by the George Business Chamber in conjunction with other chambers and organisations across the Garden Route to determine, amongst others, the impact of the coronavirus on businesses.
"We need to be mindful of the fact that businesses in the Garden Route have been adversely impacted by various disruptions inclusive of the drought, crime, load shedding and now the Covid-19 virus over the past period of time," said Dr Dennis Farrell, chairperson of the George Business Chamber, on Wednesday.
According to the preliminary results, these two factors have been the biggest impactors on businesses in the past 6 to 12 months, and business owners expect Covid-19 to be the biggest factor in the next 6 to 12 months.
The final results of the survey will be made available on Friday.
These disruptions require investment and the need to address sustainable positive cash flows. The authorities are communicating support and relief efforts for businesses, but the speed of implementation is going to be the key, said Farrell.
"As the broader socio-economic community of the Garden Route we need to stand together, support each other, be calm, seek solutions to this emerging 'new economic framework' and engage with the authorities for joint speedy solution implementation."
