GEORGE NEWS - Fern is located in the newly renovated post office building on the R404 in Blanco. Owners Mariné Roos and Sharon Coetzer say the name FERN is an acronym for “the fabulous, exceptional, remarkable and natural collection” they have curated in the store.
Mariné says that opening the store and gallery is a dream come true for both ladies and the emphasis is on “exceptional found objects, treasures and beautiful natural materials.”
Visitors will find paintings, sculptures, photographs and mosaics by local artists including Stefan de Beer, André de Beer, Marinda Koen, Martie du Toit, Hyla Hartlief, Lize Jonck, Annelie Hurter, Fourie Ackermann, Ester Zonnestein, Francois Roets, Tanya van Wyk, Tanja Lategan, Moekie Manthe, Madeleine Leonard and Annelie Coetzee.
A range of bronze-cast ocean- and nature-inspired sculptures by Plettenberg Bay sculptor, Malcolm Solomon, are available at Fern.
Fern’s fashion offerings include both new and vintage collections. Browse the oversized boho tank dresses and botanical kaftans by South African fashion designer Hendrik Willem. Fern also has its own pre-loved ladies clothing brand, called Est.Her. This carefully curated range consists of superior quality pre-owned clothing, at affordable prices.
The store stocks Stroom Op handmade leather goods including handbags, clutches, aprons and wallets, and a range of upcycled and African-inspired bead and shell jewellery.
Fern’s collection of interior décor items includes upcycled and reprocessed materials such as palm wood flowerpots, palm pod sailboats, handmade furniture, potted succulents and driftwood centerpieces. Stalk and Petal is a collection of decorative pressed flowers and leaves by Emmie Niemand.
Fern also offers L.I.C. life in colour collection of handmade jewellery by Lisa-Marie Roos, as well as handmade furniture by Unetsie Roos. Customers can also enjoy the work of our guest artist for September, photographer Francois Roets.
The store stocks indigenous, local and seasonal fresh cut flowers, including bunches of proteas, decorative restios and other sustainably sourced fynbos species. Fern also stocks fresh strawberries and blueberries from Garden of Eden Berries.
Fern is available to rent out of hours as an events space and functions venue for groups of up to twenty people. Catering can be provided on site, and bookings are essential.
