AGRICULTURE NEWS - In partnership with Agri Studies SA, Agri Auctions SA has now made a comprehensive course about biosecurity, outbreak response and the prevention of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) freely available to farmers.
Agri Studies' Pieter Goosen said this certified course has been made available at no cost to farmers and is part of the two organisations' national FMD support initiative.
The online course is titled 'Foot-and-mouth disease: Prevention, biosecurity and outbreak response certificate course' and is available free of charge on Agri Auctions SA's platforms.
This course helps farmers understand FMD transmission and risk factors, as well as to help them implement practical on-farm biosecurity systems.
The course also looks at reducing outbreak risk through preventative protocols and how to respond correctly and legally to suspected outbreaks. It further covers how to protect livestock, income and market access and assists with training farm workers in biosecurity awareness.
Goosen said the course includes prevention strategies, biosecurity guidelines, movement control procedures, outbreak response protocols and a certificate of completion.
He said the course is not a basic awareness notice, but a comprehensive, real-world training programme.
You can register in two ways.
The first is to send a WhatsApp message, "register for FMD course" to 064 597 8183. The second is to visit www.agristudies.co.za and register directly online.
Goosen added that this is an online course, so farmers anywhere can enrol and complete it at the pace that suits their own schedules.
"This initiative forms part of our social responsibility to support South African agriculture during this challenging time. Together, we strengthen biosecurity. Together, we protect the industry," said Goosen.
