GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality wants to inform residents that the municipal-controlled geyser switch-off times will change from 1 July, due to the change in Eskom's Time-of-Use tariff structure.
George Municipality does not adhere strictly to this schedule when switching off geysers, as doing so would result in extended periods without hot water.
The municipality applies a balanced approach to ensure both effective load management and the continued availability of hot water.
It should also be noted that municipalities across South Africa have been required to install geyser control systems to help flatten peak demand on the national electricity grid.
These systems have been in place for several years and are essential in reducing network constraints by switching geysers off during peak periods.
The new times are as follows:
June to August (High demand season)
- Monday to Friday: 06:00-08:00 and 18:00-20:00
- Saturday: 10:00-12:00 and 17:00-19:00
- Sunday: 17:00-19:00
September to May (Low demand season)
- Monday to Friday: 07:00-09:00 and 19:00- 21:00
- Saturday: 10:00-12:00 and 18:00- 20:00
- Sunday: 18:00-20:00
