Cliff Buchler, George:
What has our country become? Not only is crime out of control, but irony of ironies, at the same time, during the funeral of a suspected felon, former president Jacob Zuma, himself a person of ill-repute (to put it mildly), pays tribute to the deceased in glowing terms.
If crooks are given hero status, what chance do the judiciary and law enforcement agencies stand in coping with criminals on the streets?
This juxtaposition is proof that our country is in dire straits, and spiralling out of control. President Ramaphosa has failed to take the bull by the horns by not firing the bad apples in the cabinet. It has made him a weak leader, without the necessary clout to address the present anarchy.
It will take a miracle - or hopefully, strong political will - to get us out of this mess.
