To address the escalation of bullying and violent incidences in schools, the Eden and Central Karoo Education District launched a campaign aimed at dealing with these problems. One of the strategies was to initiate a competition to actively involve schools in activities and discussions about bullying and its effects on learners. Roger Jacobs, head of specialised learner and educator support and programme coordinator, said that half of the region's 204 schools participated by having an anti-bully week in August.
