The intrepid Kingsley Holgate and his team set off from Cape Town for Kathmandu in mid-July, still spreading the message of hope and the means for survival. Along with adventure, the expedition is aimed at fighting malaria, improving sight and childhood development, as well as providing the means to purify drinking water with a special long-life drinking straw. The Cape Town to Kathmandu expedition will travel through Southern Africa, up to the edge of the European world and then through ancient Asia to the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. Covering 19 countries and 17 000km, this Land Rover journey follows in the footsteps of Marco Polo along a part of the ancient Silk Route, from Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and China.
