GEORGE NEWS - A concert on two pianos is not something Georgians often have the opportunity to experience (that is if you discount your kids struggling through their school duet).
However, we are lucky to have two international standard pianists living in George who have joined hands, so to speak, to treat us to an evening of excellent music by great composers, including Rachmaninoff and Arensky.
Dalene Steenkamp-Brits and Kalene Roux are well known in local musical circles.
Dalene studied music at the University of Cape Town and already as a student performed with famous musicians around the country. She also performed as soloist with the Cape Town University Orchestra and the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra.
After completing her studies in piano and singing, she was appointed as junior lecturer and repetateur for the Opera school at University of Cape Town. She was later appointed as the official pianist of former Capab, where she performed with many international and national musicians. In 1973 Dalene was appointed as pianist at the music department of the Sabc in Sea Point, one of only three similar positions in SA. She has made many recordings as soloist as well as accompanist. Dalene has contributed enormously to the music scene in George over the years.
Kalene Roux obtained a BMus Ed at the University of Stellenbosch with piano as a major under David Muller and flute under Eva Tamassey. She has taught at many schools and has over the years been involved with many choirs. She also formed a number of award-winning ensembles as well as an orchestra in George. She currently focuses on her two-piano collaboration with Dalene.
