GEORGE NEWS - George Music Society is looking forward to a performance by two doyennes of South African classical music, pianist Mathilda Hornsveld and violinist Elmarie van den Vyver, on Sunday 5 May at the George Arts Theatre at 15:30.
They will be visiting George to act as adjudicators for the Young Musicians Competition auditions that will take place at the Arts Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday, 7 and 8 May.
George Music Society invited them to share their skill and their love for music with everyone before the auditions as inspiration for the participants as well as the rest of music lovers.
The two highly accomplished musicians will perform compositions by some of the world's most famous composers such as Bach, Schubert, Piazzollo and more.
Hornsveld graduated with a B Mus (Performers) from the University of Pretoria. She then joined the State Theatre as a pianist with the inception of its Permanent Opera Chorus.
She worked as nationally as a freelance coach répétiteur, conductor and chorus master on many major opera and musical productions as well as adjudicator of choral competitions for many years.
Van den Vyver is a member of the South African Suzuki Association as well as the European String Teachers Association, and is currently the representative of the South African Strings Association for the Eastern Cape.
She completed a B Mus degree at the University of Pretoria and an M Mus in viola performance at the North-West University in Potchefstroom.
Elmarie is active as soloist and chamber musician and has been a member of most of the main orchestras in Gauteng. She has attended numerous masterclasses and recorded many CDs with other artists. She is also an inspired music educator.
Tickets for this special performance will cost R170 for public, R50 for learners and R120 for members of the society, and can be obtained at www.georgemusicsociety.co.za where you can also join for discount tickets.
