ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The energetic and at times moving musical performances by the Cape Town cast of West End to Broadway received warm applause on a chilly Saturday evening, 15 July, at the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre in George.
The appreciative audience loved the songs from 12 famous musicals and thoroughly enjoyed the performance by the Fresh Theatre Company, a group of amateur singers who gave some heart-warming interpretations of all-time favourites. In the excerpts from Les Mirables, twelve singers bowled over the audience with touching renditions, impressing die-hard fans.
The director and master of ceremonies, Gavin Wright, made an entrance with his Cabaret song "Willkommen" (Welcome), which broke the proverbial ice. The cast kept up the pace with songs and medleys from Rodger and Hammerstein's Oklahoma; Claude-Michel Schönberg's Miss Saigon; and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph, which was a favourite.
Leri Brink's rendition of the theme song of Annie was memorable. Natalie Mostert was centre stage in Miss Saigon as a mesmerising Kim.
The touching Little Mermaid sung by Joy Graayenstein left a lasting impression and Melissa Bester's finale as Tracy from Hairspray had the whole audience on their feet.
