ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The George Arts Theatre is a Non-Profit Organisation which solely relies on the input of the community to keep the theatre alive.
Opening on 25 October, this production promises all of your favourite Rocky Horror music, lively dances, singing, and a night of fun entertainment.
This show is a tribute to the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The original production was written in 1975 by Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brien – who also played Riff Raff in the original movie.
Not long after its release, The Rocky Horror Picture Show became a staple of midnight movie showings. The interactive experience, which encourages viewers to dress up, shout back at the screen, and even throw props, has become a rite of passage for many.
You can expect your favourite songs such as the Time Warp - its catchy tune and memorable moves make it an absolute hit to this day. Even if you’ve never seen Rocky Horror, you’ll definitely recognise its familiar beat.
The tribute show follows the adventure of newly engaged couple Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, who embark on a road trip to visit their professor, Dr. Everett Scott, to tell him of their engagement. However, upon their journey, they’re stranded on the road and seek refuge at a castle – but what they find there will impact their lives forever. Join Riff Raff, Magenta, Colombia and the ever flamboyant Dr. Frankfurter as they dabble in human science of a different nature.
Directed and choreographed by Rocky Horror superfan, Candice Koen – who last starred as Rizzo in the theatre’s production of Grease earlier this year – this tribute show is years in the making and truly is her love for theatre made visible.
Candice has been a part of the George Arts Theatre since 2002 but has always held a passion for performance. Her mission is to bring the absolute awe of theatre and the performance arts to a small stage like George so that audiences can broaden their horizons and share in the global spirit of the stage.
Rocky Horror fans are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite characters for a night of fun, mystery and absolutely marvellous entertainment.
Bookings can be made on Computicket or at the theatre directly. The Friday 27 October performance is a Gala Event, where patrons will receive special treats as part of their ticket.
