GEORGE NEWS - A number of artists are participating in an art exhibition titled "Object", which opened on Saturday 28 October at the George Museum.
In preparation for the exhibition, the South Cape Association of Visual Arts (Scava) held a workshop on the theme "Object".
At the workshop, artists explored various media and techniques, including charcoal, ink, paint and found materials, and produced sets of narrative works on objects of their own choice. The choices of objects are significant through the evocation of aspects such as memory, sentiment and identity.
The exhibition and workshop are presented under the banner of the Contemporary Art Practice (Cap) Institute.
The participating artists, who come from the Garden Route, Pretoria, the Western and Eastern Cape, are Alison Lombard, Anthea-Ann Jennings, Cathy Rogers, Denise Woodgate, Donne Rundle, Elsa van der Klashorst, Gwenneth Miller, Kala Combrink, Mary-Jane Morris, Maryna Joubert, Michelle Henn, René Scribante, Sue Duthie, Rosa Snyman-Wessels, Tersia Hoffmann, Vandana Premchand and Zanne Small.
The artists produced sets of narrative works on objects of their own choice.
Under the auspices of the South African National Association for Visual Arts (Sanava), the events are conducted by Sanava vice-president Prof Elfriede Dreyer, who founded and manages the Cap Institute.
