GEORGE NEWS - A variety of entertainment and activities have been lined up for the Nestlé Ice Cream Strawberry Festival at Redberry Farm on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September.
The festival is a popular local family event where visitors can experience a day out in a beautiful farm environment.
Charming handcrafted products, tasty treats, good food and local wines will be exhibited at 40 stalls. Kids activities and crafts along with strawberry picking, as well as a kids play park will keep them amused.
For the sporty there is the 4km and 8km Redberry Farm Trail Run.
Live music will be provided by Daveymac and well-known Afrikaans singer Elizma Theron, who will be performing on Sunday at the South African Breweries beer tent. There will also be dance performances.
Other fun activities include strawberry and ice cream eating competitions, Algoa FM broadcasts, the Checkers farm stall strawberry patch and many other delights, as well as a miniature train display and rides, the 'Berry Bark' SPCA dog walk and more.
Foodies will appreciate the NQtac Culinary School food demonstrations that will be running throughout the weekend. Redberry Farm has also added Strawberry Talk and Tours into the mix.
A large portion of the proceeds are to be distributed between a local charity and the Outeniqua Tourism Association (OTA). The OTA will use the proceeds for on-going marketing of the Outeniqua Hop Route to encourage more people to visit this wonderful part of the world.
This year's sponsored charity is Options Care Centre in George, a local organisation assisting those facing unplanned pregnancies and HIV/Aids crises.
It is tradition to host a Scarecrow Competition at the festival, where local schools build their own scarecrow and compete for R5 000 in prizes for their school. Entries will be on display during the festival.
Entrance tickets are R20 per adult on the Saturday and R30 per adult on the Sunday; children under 12 are R10 on both days. View the festival events at www.strawberryfestival.co.za or on Facebook - Strawberry Festival Garden Route.
