GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Famous Norwegian pianist, Rune Alver, will be performing at the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre on Friday 17 January at 19:30.
Alver was educated at Bergen Music Conservatory and the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo where he received his diploma in 1986. He has studied with pianists Jan Henrik Kayser, Einar Steen-Nokleberg and Vlado Perlemuter.
Since his debut as a pianist 20 years ago, Alver has achieved a sterling reputation as soloist and chamber musician. He performs all over Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Ireland, USA, South Africa and the People's Republic of China.
Alver frequently collaborates with outstanding musicians, actors and visual artists in traditional as well as experimental settings. He has recorded a number of solo CDs featuring the music of Chopin, Schumann, Grieg and modern Norwegian composers. His music is available on Spotify, Google Play Music and YouTube.
He has performed at Carnegie Hall and Weill Recital Hall in New York, Radio France in Paris, Mendelssohn Haus in Leipzig and many more.
He will perform music by Edvard Grieg and his younger colleague Signe Lund. Tickets are available at www.georgemusicsociety.co.za at R150, R30 for children and R100 for members.

In February the well-loved local two-piano duo of Kalene Roux and Dalene Steenkamp-Brits will perform at the theatre.
Pianist extraordinaire Charl du Plessis will be on stage in April with a recital from his latest project, Freehand.
In April, Shoes and Strings, a classical guitar and Flamenco dance duo, will come to George, followed by the fantastic guitarist James Grace and violinist David Bester in May.
