GEORGE NEWS - Fancourt's Classical summer season kicks off with a performance of Dance Kaleidoscope on Friday 27 October with an evening performance at 18:30 for 19:00.
The concert will take place in the elegant ballroom at the Fancourt Conference Centre.
Dance Kaleidoscope is an exhilarating extravaganza of different dance genres.
The talented dancers from the well-known Christelle Smit Dance Studio will enthral the audience with a dazzling programme of Contemporary Dance, Tap and Latino, performed to diverse music ranging from baroque (Antonio Vivaldi), soft rock and soul (Calum Scott), to rock (Coldplay).
Elvinia's Dance Academy will present excerpts from the enchanting ballet Swan Lake by Peter Tchaikovsky. Here a ballet and contemporary fusion will be used to create a modern feel to this classical masterpiece.
They will also do a character dance on a Hungarian Czardas and perform a work by Karen Zoid with which they earned the Episode Champions title in the KykNET competition, Dans in jou Taal.
The York High School Dance Department joins the Fancourt concert series for the second time, staging their talented dancers and singers.
They will bring back memories with excerpts from the musical Hairspray by Marc Shaiman; and will also perform a Tango and a Stick Dance, all cleverly choreographed by Linda Johnson, ballet dancer and teacher.
One of the highlights of the show will be the guest appearance of dancer Monique Zürich, who will perform a contemporary dance set to music composed by Jacques Brel.
She was also guest soloist in the Fancourt production of The Magical World of Cabaret in 2014.
Monique joins the cast and will perform a dance specially choreographed for her by the dancer-teacher Jeannette Ziady.
The artistic director for all the concerts is well-known musicologist and musician Dr Ronell van Aswegen, who is a resident at Fancourt.
She loves to showcase the local Georgian talent and compiled the programme for Dance Kaleidoscope.
Ronell is assisted by Adriaan Louw as production manager and Jessica Stark as stage manager.
Tickets are R150 per person and R20 for learners. For bookings, phone 044 804 0186 or send an e-mail to festiveseason@fancourt.co.za.
