GEORGE NEWS - The popular autumn series of the lunch hour concerts, presented annually in the Dutch Reformed Mother Church, starts on 29 March with the Instrumental Ensemble and Choir of St Mary's Primary School under the direction of Karl Ackerman.
The ensemble and choir are brand-new.
The launch of a music academy at the school in 2022 was driven by the principal and realised through the efforts of Ackerman, who owned and ran the Little Big Music School in Pretoria for 20 years.
He moved to George in 2017 and is currently running both the music academy at St Mary's Primary and Little Big Music School in Thembalethu, teaching underprivileged children the wonders of music.
The music they will perform ranges from sacred to folk to pop, with items such as How great Thou art, So lank as die rietjie in die water staan and Dance Monkey.
The concerts start at 13:10 and the duration is 50 minutes.
Entry is free; donations welcome.
