GEORGE NEWS - The George Has Got Talent competition kicked off on a high note when more than 70 participants were auditioned on 25 February under the auspices of Harmony Spiritual and Emotional Healing Centre.
"We are extremely excited about the enthusiasm of participants and the quality of talents displayed by local musicians and artists at the auditions," said Harmony's project coordinator, Lee Venter.
An astonishing variety of talents was presented by participants of all ages, ranging from beautiful love songs, spiritual songs and even opera, to rap, hip-hop and dancing.
Dr Lukas du Preez, who is also associated with Harmony, said it was originally the intention to select the top 10 participants to go through to the next level of an intended Top Ten show to be held in March. Here winners will finally be selected to eventually be considered for prize money to the value of R20 000.
"Due to quality and extent of contributions presented by the participants at the auditions, the organisers however ultimately decided that it would only be justified and fair to have a semi-final where the Top 25 would go through to the next round at the end of March, and from there the Top 10 will be selected for the final event (for which the date is to be announced soon)."

The top 25 participants who were selected on Saturday are Dorothy Maggermann, Isabel Botes, John T Haas, Geraldo Lewis, Skye (Gypsy) de Nysschen, Cuemi, Lester Paulus, Luken Brown, Divinio Pietersen, Joseph van Deventer, Simpiwe Dambuza, Anja van der Merwe, Anelisiwe Sokweba, Michelle, Duette Rozelle en Soppie, Naziva, Lynette du Plessis, Loane van Sandwyk, Antonio Moos, Lyds, Deveraux, Ruan Tha Jah, Savannah, Mark and Shaela.
