GEORGE NEWS - Browse, buy, eat and drink to your heart's content at the various flea markets currently running in George, and the regular weekend markets that will also be open during the holiday season.
The following markets are open for the holidays:
Boerevintage Gift Market
• The Boerevintage Gift Market at Redberry Farm has become an annual favourite. It runs until 31 December and offers more than 160 exhibitors with a wide range of exclusive handmade gifts and products. It is open daily from 09:00-16:00 (closed on Sundays).
Outeniqua Christmas Market
•The annual Outeniqua Christmas Market at the Mother Church hall in Courtenay Street runs until 22 December, daily from 09:00-18:00 (closed on Sundays). It is popular for its art and craft stalls, artists' demonstrations, mouth and food artists, decor items, handmade gifts, and delicious freshly baked and home-made fare. Visitors can relax in the tea garden where delectable cake and tea are served. There is also live music.
The Market @ Transport Museum
A visit to a marvellous new market in George with more than 200 stalls under one roof is a must. The entire market takes place under one roof at the impressive Transnet Transport Museum, making it weatherproof and very safe. It offers a kids' corner, a food court and a beer garden. Entrance is free. The Market runs till 6 January. It is open daily from 09:00 to 18:00 (closed on Christmas day). The museum also boasts a variety of historical railway carriages, vintage cars and rail-related items, including the biggest scale model train collection in the southern hemisphere. Kids' entertainment includes a "train" ride with carts pulled by an Evolution golf cart.
The Boerevintage Market offers 160 stalls.
WEEKEND MARKETS
Milkwood Village Market
• For a lovely outing on a Friday night, visit the Milkwood Village Market in Wilderness that is held on Friday nights from 17:00-20:00. It also takes place on Sundays from 10:00-15:00. There is a variety of stalls, eats and delightful 70s and 80s music by DJ James and other artists.
Outeniqua Family Market
• When you've battled the world of warcraft called life and you need some cooldown time, the Outeniqua Family Market near the Garden Route Mall is your ideal destination. It is open every Saturday from 08:00 until 14:00 and offers more than 150 food and craft stalls with loads of entertainment for young and old.
