27-31 July:
South Cape Arts Festival Visual Arts exhibition (Monday to Thursday) at Hoogekraal Educational Trust, Glentana. R40 entry fee. Book a ticket on Quicket (R120) for the gala prizegiving event on Friday 31 July.
30 July-1 August:
Reuben: Journey of Forgiveness at the Market Community Theatre (30-31 July at 18:30; 1 August at 16:00 and 18:30). A heartfelt tale of betrayal, grace and the courage it takes to forgive, brought to life by Calindo Productions. Tickets are R120 on Webtickets. Enquiries: 076 792 5796 or [email protected].
7 August:
Dichterliebe & Liederkreis, presented by the George Music Society (19:00) at the George Arts Theatre. The concert features Thomas Erlank (tenor) and Tinus Botha (piano), performing music by Robert Schumann set to the poetry of Heinrich Heine. Tickets cost R150 (members), R190 (public), and R50 (learners). Tickets are available at the theatre and via www.georgemusicsociety.co.za. The event is sponsored by the Garden Route Eye Clinic.
8 August:
Jo Black live at Outeniqua Park Stadium, with over 800 voices of the SCST Cantamus National Choir Festival, conducted by Jan-Erik Swart. Tickets cost R150, R120 & R70 (learners) and are available on Quicket.
14 August:
Ventriloquist Conrad Koch’s Chester’s Got Talent at the George Arts Theatre (19:30). Can you imagine a talent show just for puppets? The stakes are high as internationally acclaimed South African ventriloquist Conrad Koch wants his puppets to compete to be the very best, but that pariah, Chester Missing, never does what he is told.
Chester spits the honest unfiltered truth. Laugh your choochas off at Gunter the German mosquito, Hilton the dramatic ostrich, DJ Hoodie the puppet, Mr Dixon the high school teacher, Paul Okwane die Krokodil, and a surprise guest star as they fight it out. The best part is that you, the audience, get to judge as each puppet makes Conrad’s problems worse. A hilarious night out for the whole family. Directed by Christo Davids. 15 August:
Following a sold-out July performance, Selim Kagee’s Il Mondo returns to the George Arts Theatre at 16:00. A heartfelt musical journey through timeless love songs, cinematic ballads and personal stories, performed by acclaimed vocalist Selim Kagee.
Featuring classics such as “Il Mondo”, “And I Love You So”, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Always on My Mind”, the show combines his signature semi-operatic voice with emotion, nostalgia and charm. Guests are encouraged to dress in sophisticated formal or smart attire. Tickets are R300 on Quicket. No under 13s.

15 August:
Fierce Hope. Quiet Courage. The Stories We Sing at the Market Community Theatre (14:00). A unique theatrical experience where songs become stories and stories becomes songs. Through music by Miriam Makeba, Alessia Cara and Andra Day, three women share seven deeply human stories of survival, hope, healing, laughter and courage. Tickets from R100 to R120 at Webtickets.
