GEORGE NEWS – What began as a life-altering medical journey has unfolded into a powerful story of faith, healing and unexpected talent for local artist Blaine du Plessis.
In August 2025, du Plessis underwent a brain operation. A moment that could have marked the end of a chapter, but instead became the beginning of something entirely new.
During his recovery, he discovered an ability he had never possessed before: painting.
What started as a simple creative outlet soon evolved into something far deeper.
“Every brushstroke carries meaning,” du Plessis shares. “It reflects a journey of healing, purpose and grace. I truly believe this is a God-given talent.”
Through this period, du Plessis describes a profound personal encounter with God, one that led him to give his life to Christ and embrace his faith as a born-again Christian. Today, his art stands not only as creative expression, but as a calling and a way to inspire others and share a message of hope, faith and transformation.
In December 2025, du Plessis hosted his first exhibition at the George Museum. More than just an art showcase, the exhibition became a deeply moving testimony of healing and new beginnings. Visitors were touched not only by the artwork itself, but by the powerful story behind it.
Now, du Plessis is preparing for his next chapter.
His upcoming exhibition, titled ‘Onse Mense’, will take place tomorrow, Saturday 21 March (Freedom Day) at 18:00 at the Attic Atelier in Market Street.
The exhibition aims to explore the deeper meaning of freedom, not only the political freedom South Africans commemorate, but also personal and spiritual freedom.
“Onse Mense’ is about more than art,” he explains. “It’s about reminding people that healing and purpose are always possible, no matter what they have been through.”
Through both his artwork and his testimony, Blaine hopes to connect with others who may be facing their own challenges, offering encouragement and a renewed sense of hope.
For du Plessis, this exhibition is not simply an event; it is a continuation of a journey shaped by faith, resilience and transformation.
