ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Mossel Bay boeremusiek legend Allen Green turned 90 on Tuesday, 20 June.
True to his name, he is certainly evergreen, youthful for his age and living life to the full.
Green produces music for musicians, mixing in all the instruments. He also repairs musical instruments and makes concertinas.
"Just today some instruments came in to be fixed," he mentioned to Mossel Bay Advertiser on his birthday.
Lately he has repaired pianos, saxophones, guitars, violins and a banjo, he notes.
Green does not walk, he darts everywhere.
The day before his birthday, he celebrated his second wedding anniversary, on 19 June. He and his wife Mara had known each other for a quarter of a century before they tied the knot.
Green has enjoyed boeremusiek fame for decades and has appeared or been featured on television and radio many times. Radio Sonder Grense (RSG) aired a programme about him on Saturday, 17 June. It was mentioned that Green is still very much on the go and that he would be turning 90 this week. He still drives his own car.
Green told the Advertiser the secret to his youthfulness: "The main thing is that your brain must be active all the time. Eat healthily and if a nice girl walks by, look at her because you're not dead yet."
